Wife of Meru County Senator Priscilla Murungi has openly defended her husband’s bid for Meru County in the forthcoming August elections.
She has asked Meru Governor to stop using the age factor to criticise Kiraitu Murungi’s political ambitions.
“His age is a plus and not a minus because it is wisdom he has picked on his long political path which will be helpful in leading a diverse county,” Priscilla said.
While supporting his wife’s sentiments, Kiraitu, 65, said Jomo Kenyatta gave birth to Uhuru, a future president, at age 72 and therefore he was fit to serve the people of Meru County.
Priscilla is also accusing Governor Peter Munya of being thankless even after her husband campaigned tirelessly for his 2013 victory.
“To say the truth, Munya only won in three (of Meru’s nine) constituencies and that is at South Imenti, Central Imenti and Buuri and that’s because of the work my husband put in for him,” Priscilla told a crowd of South Imenti leaders that she and her husband hosted at their Kiigene home near Nkubu Township.
Munya garnered 184,273 votes against the 180,273 for Dr Mwiria - a difference of only 3,000 votes flat.
“It is sad that he pays us back with just absurd insults,” Priscilla said.
The senator’s wife who is rarely in public limelight also claimed that, “They are branding the projects and claiming they have built them yet we all know they were all started by the CDF which had only Sh50 million annual allocation.”
