Nairobians who are interested in the matatu business can now own such vehicles in 45 days courtesy of a recently launched auto garage in Nairobi.

Dubbed Bresson Choda, the garage along Lusaka road was launched specifically for assembling and redesigning matatus in the City popularly known as Nganyas.

Usually, building such matatus in other garages takes over three months depending on the number of vehicles ordered by investors at given time.

“Things are different here, we launched the garage to specifically deal with matatus instead of all kind of vehicles” Ricky Choda one of the directors said.

According to Ricky, the garage beats the 45 days period since they use light materials to build matatus to acceptable standards.

He added “we also redesign old matatus to achieve new look since at some point rickety matatus must be taken back to garage for makeover”

One such matatu dubbed Phanta Manela that has just undergone redesign at the garage has become instant sensation and already giving its rivals run for their money.

It is also rumoured that Phantom, popular City matatu set to be sold to Saudi sheikh was assembled here and will undergo final touches before crossing the waters early next year.

"Many people think redesign adds weight but we use the right measurements and do proper re-fabricating of old matatus that could have been disposed to new ones", said Ricky.
