“My name is Dr Josephine Thitu. I got married to then Mr alfred Mutua on 1st July 2OOO at Nairobi Baptist Ngong Road in a church ceremony. We are still married. And have three children, a boy aged 7 years old and twins aged 4.”

The Nairobian received this statement one day after Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua, unveiled a new Machakos County First Lady on Facebook.

The move by the man credited with ambitious development plans received mixed reactions from the public.

Our efforts to get clarification on the matter did not bear fruit, as the governor did not get back to us.

 Sh*t happens

The photo has elicited 700 comments on the social media.

A certain Mr John Mwangi posted a comment saying that the governor’s wife, the mother of his kids Josephine Thitu is more beautiful than the woman Mutua posed with on the photo. “It is unfortunate…but two people should only be together if they are happy, otherwise, sh*t happens.”

Richard Msee, another Facebook user commented that Lilian was beautiful, while Mohamed Rashid Dahir gave her a standing ovation.

Support and prayers

Others did not want to be drawn into the issue and opted to congratulate their county. Cathy Jewel Joseph saying, “My home county is so blessed.” Mutuku Mathew wrote, “Behind every successful governor, is a wife giving all the support and prayers.”

In the past, Mutua has been seen with Josephine during official functions but recently Lilian seems to be the one hogging the limelight.

Our sources reveal that Mutua has been having a good time with Lilian and something might have blossomed between the two. However, Mutua has remained tight-lipped on rumours about his relationship with Lilian  and the fate of his wife Josephine.

Scandals involving powerful men like Tiger Woods and Bill Clinton usually dominate the headlines. A few years ago former president Mwai Kibaki had to refute claims of a second wife. In 2010, Kibaki called a press conference to clear the issue. “The media have been reporting that I have another wife or wives, I have only one wife,” he told journalists.

Another African president, Jacob Zuma, is an unapologetic polygamist who has married six times.
