Public universities’ staff unions have threatened to down tools if the management fails to initiate talks over salary increment.
Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu), and Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers want negotiations held before end of February, failure to which they would go on strike.
Uasu Secretary General Charles Mukhwaya said Inter-Public Universities Councils Consultative Forum had declined to give a date for the talks.
“The Government has until February 28 to meet our demands,” he said.
