Kibabii Diploma Teachers Training College has been moved from Tuuti area in Kanduyi constituency to Syombe in Bumula constituency.
This is after the establishment of a multi-billion Kibabii University College, a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.
The relocation follows consultations among stakeholders in Bungoma County. Revealing the decision at Kimaeti Primary School, area MP Bifwoli Wakoli (pictured) said after long consultations with the Ministry of Education officials, they agreed to relocate it.
“This is after it became apparent that if not moved, the college might be relocated elsewhere in the country or be phased out and deny residents of Bungoma an opportunity of the only the Government owned teachers diploma training institution,” said the MP.
Bumula CDF has already paid out Sh4 million for 50 acres but it remains with arrears of Sh10.5 million. Webuye MP Alfred Sambu has promised Sh2 million to cater for the same.
“This move will minimise wrangles currently being witnessed,” said Wakoli. There have been wrangles since Kibabii University College opened its doors in what had been considered the teachers college premises.
Leaders from Bungoma County felt the need not to phase out the teachers college as it was going to deny many students wishing to train in teaching an opportunity to further their careers.
Residents of Bumula hailed Wakoli for his bold move to fight for their interests and urged him to also improve infrastructure as a way of improving transport in the poverty-ridden constituency.
