Residents have been asked to turn up for a medical camp to be held at the Meru Level 5 Hospital.
The exercise, to be conducted by a team of neurosurgeons from the Kenyatta National Hospital, will offer free medical check-ups and operations starting today.
Team Leader John Mboore, wants the residents to turn up in their numbers. Patients with brain and spinal cord problems will also be treated for free.
"Apart from the Sh100 to be charged for opening their files, we will do the operations free of charge, for those cases that require surgery. There are five of us, and depending on the number of patients who turn up, we might be around for two days," said David Mwenda.
He added: "The region does not have even a single neurosurgeon, and as a result, we have decided to be doing these clinics every second week of every month. During our first visit to Meru, we were able to attend to 21 patients, but we felt it was because the community was not aware of our presence."
