A heart-stopping video circulating on social media shows the terrifying moment a boda boda rider narrowly escaped being swept away by floodwaters in Mirema.

The footage, which has gone viral, captures the motorcyclist sitting helplessly on the ground, desperately struggling against the powerful current.

His motorcycle can be seen slowly drifting away as the raging floodwaters push it down the road.

In a stroke of good fortune, fellow riders quickly came to his aid, with one pulling him to safety while another rescued his motorcycle from the surging waters.

The dramatic rescue has prompted numerous reactions online, with many social media users expressing concern for the rider while also commenting on broader issues.

@kimBOVILLE remarked, "One I admit and condemn the government's inaction to deal with storm water drainage which is always the same story-but these boda guys are not entirely innocent looking at how reckless they drive and the risks they take"

Meanwhile, @254sach took a more satirical approach, suggesting a connection between the area's reputation and the downpour: "Enyewe, if you know the two streets, Mirema and Lumumba Drv... Utaelewa mbona kulienda hivo. It's removing the sins"

The incident comes amid seasonal heavy rainfall across the country.

According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, these intense rains are expected to continue throughout the week.

Dr. David Gikungu, Director of Meteorological Services, stated that the highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will experience the heaviest rainfall.

"Average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30C will be experienced in much of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya," said Dr. Gikungu.

He further explained that "Average night-time (minimum) temperatures, he said, will be less than 10C in some parts of the highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and in the vicinity of Mt. Kilimanjaro."

The affected counties include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, and Narok.
