A dramatic scene unfolded in Bomet after two women bolted from a church service, unable to withstand brutal beatings disguised as an exorcism ritual.

The harrowing incident led police to shut down Bethel Church in Kapkwen and launch a manhunt for the fugitive pastor behind the disturbing practice.

Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga revealed that the pastor, with help from his ushers, whipped congregants under the guise of casting out evil spirits.

But for Mercy Rono, 38, and Mercy Cherotich, 30, the 'deliverance' turned into a nightmare. Unable to bear the pain, they fled and reported the abuse at Kapkwen Police Station before receiving medical treatment at Bomet Health Centre.

Doctors confirmed the women had bruises all over their bodies. After treatment, they were advised to file a P3 form to document the assault. Meanwhile, police are not only pursuing the rogue preacher and his accomplices but also investigating whether the church is legally registered.

"We are looking into the church's operations, given that most of its followers are women," said Commander Imbwaga.

News of the shocking abuse has enraged the public, with furious residents vowing to tear down the church if authorities allow it to reopen. The hunt for the runaway pastor continues.
