Isaac Kinyua, 78, a remand prisoner at the Meru Main Prison is arguably the oldest Kenya Certificate for Primary Examination (KCPE) candidate this year.
The frail elderly inmate is facing charges of forgery. He says the burning desire to sit for the national examination was inspired largely by Kenya's oldest KCPE candidate the late Kimani Maruge who sat for the national examination at the age of 84 years.
Kinyua who is awaiting his fate in May 2021, has been termed by the assistant Commissioner for prisons in charge of the facility as diligent and outgoing.
