Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has summoned 13 Bomet MCAs over last week’s chaotic speaker’s election.

The chaotic elections saw some of the ward reps trade insults. There were attempts to carry away the Speaker’s Mace so as to cripple proceedings. The commission has so far sought from the assembly video footage taken during the poll and copies of the hansard for the day.

In the summonses seen by The Standard, EACC South Rift Regional Manager Hassan Khalid said the move was informed by the need to uphold integrity as spelled out in Chapter Six of the Constitution.

Khalid has particularly requested the assembly to avail certified copies of Robert Serbai’s personal file for perusal.

Robert Serbai, the Embomos MCA, is believed to have snatched and attempted to flee with the Speaker’s Mace.

Three assembly’s sergeant at arms who wrestled the Mace from Serbei have also been booked to record statements with the commission next week.

Speaker’s seat aspirants Weldon Chirchir, Edwin Sitienei, Cherotich Clara and Cheruiyot Tamogei will equally help in the probe.

Nelson Mutai won the election with 27 votes.
