Meru, Kenya: Former Meru Governor Peter Munya has thrown a surprise with notice to withdraw his election petition against successor Kiraitu Murungi, his former ally turned bitter rival.
Munya's lawyers made an application to withdraw and there was no objectionsfrom Kiraitu's side as the two rivals watched from the public gallery.
Justice Francis Gikonyo allowed the application but with instructions that a notice be published in a newspaper with national circulation. The parties are to return to court on December 4 for further orders.
Outside the court, the two embraced in a rare show of unity since they fell out two years ago.
