The allure of winning national titles in secondary school games has seen teams turn to dirty tricks just to be at the top.
Year in, year out, this has been the order of the day for unscrupulous schools, but always, their plans have flopped and concerned teams suspended from subsequent games.
It was a case of the same script, but different cast, in this year’s Nyanza Region Term Two B games when five teams were suspended for fielding ineligible players.
Coaches of Ligisa and Gesoro Boys football teams were apprehended after the incident, same as those from Olembo, Ringa and Mogonga boys’ volleyball teams.
The Lake Region Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) Secretary Thomas Odhiambo said they are trying to clean up the mess.

Odhiambo said the five coaches were arrested as the secretariat looks into the matter.
“The coaches were arrested and their teams have been thrown out of the championships. We are just waiting for further recommendations,” said Odhiambo.
