The political temperature in Kenya is rising with only nine months to the general elections. Well look at that nine months. It’s not that far but the political scene is in mayhem. Political parties are parading around the country campaigning vigorously. Politicians are defecting camps and with this insults are being thrown at each other, talk about insecurities, others are threatening to declare sits of defectors vacant and conduct by elections. Well this is Kenya for you.

And it begins; remember when there was a mega bash in the coastal part of the country and a grand merger at the capital? One party was celebrating ten years of being in the political arena and the other was celebrating the birth of a new grand party. This is where it got warm.

Now we know how re-election and staying relevant in the political scene is important to our mighty politicians but woe unto us for the stunts they try and pull to stay relevant. A certain politician in the central part of Kenya has decided to start a campaign to give one cow to each homestead. His reasons, it is an act of giving back to his great people who elected him to office. This is quite fishy Mr. Governor. But just wait. His fellow governor in the Western part of Kenya thought it wise to brand his face on mock examination papers meant for pupils in primary schools. Insanity is real people. I don’t know what he hoped to achieve because am sure his face on an examination paper was not going to help the pupils pass with flying colors. Talk about misplaced priorities, I mean the pupils are not even of a legal age to vote.

Let’s switch gears to the queen of the city, “Mama Nai” herself. She just outright imitated what a Safaricom customer care attendant had done, after she went down on the ground to help a disabled man when he visited their offices in Nakuru. And we watched in awe as the drama unfolded before our very own eyes. The exact same thing happening outside the parliament buildings. This time it was the woman representative of Nairobi, seated on the streets talking to a disabled man. And the backlash she got from the photos posted on social media did not do her any good. I get how it is seemingly tough for women out there especially those running for political seats but the timing could not have been right. The crazy stunts our leaders pull will one day put our good name to shame.

Recently, two former presidential aspirants in the previous general election have now tossed their bid into the gubernatorial race and declared their support to back the incumbent president for a re-election into the house on the hill. Was the presidency too much of a task for them or maybe they learnt their lesson from the recent ‘surprise Trump win.’ We see how important it is to play your cards right. The temperature got too high that some of those who had crossed the bridge to the other side and tasted the waters left as quickly as they got there, back to their warm seats before they grew cold switching tactics. Politics is a game that requires the sharpest mind.

It’s getting hotter and we have a good nine months before the general elections and the drama is not yet over. Let’s wait and see who gets burned and who gets to bask and enjoy the breeze.
