CORD leader Raila Odinga led other opposition leaders in celebrating 53rd Madaraka Day in a political rally at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.
Thousands of people thronged the park as early as 8am Wednesday morning to be part of the CORD rally. Hundreds of police were deployed to provide security at the grounds.
The highly anticipated event kicked off at around 2pm after CORD leader Raila Odinga arrived at the grounds.
Raila Odinga insisted that Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) must be disbanded. “When we appointed the IEBC chair we did not know he will be linked with the chicken gate scandal”, he said.
He added that CORD will follow the constitution as required and will therefore appoint five members of parliament (Mps) to lead talks with Jubilee. “If the dialogue is successful there will be no demonstrations on Monday,” he said.

He termed the recent demonstration as a constitutional right saying the coalition will not relent in its course.
At the same time Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula said IEBC must go even though the coalition is seeking dialogue. Others in attendance were Nairobi deputy governor Jonathat Mueke, senators Bony Khalwale, Johnstone Muthama, James Orengo and Elizabeth Ongoro. Kanu secretary general Nick Salat also addressed the gathering reiterating Cord’s position that IEBC must be disbanded.
