CORD principal and opposition leader, Raila Odinga has made incessant claims of a plot to rig the 2017 general elections.
These claims bear striking resemblance to those made by Raila in 2007 when he was a presidential candidate.
This type of comparison is proof that these allegations may be based on factual information well known to Raila and they should be taken seriously.
The government and opposition should liaise to ensure that these allegations are properly investigated so that Kenyans are assured of a free and fair election in 2017.
The best way to go about this is for the two factions to contact an independent body to conduct the investigations. This will ensure that everyone is satisfied with the state of affairs and no one cries foul after the final results are announced in 2017.

IEBC officials should also work to ensure that the commission is totally capable of executing the tasks assigned to it. Cases of election malpractice such as those made regarding the Kericho County by-elections only serve to reduce Kenyans’ confidence in the commission and even add validity to the claims made by the CORD principal.
Overall, the individuals with political ambitions should know that Kenyans relish more the prospect of a peaceful election than to be led by a particular individual.
