The just concluded JAP nominations in Kericho County do not indicate victory for Jubilee in the Rift Valley region but a tight race for the senatorial seat. The county has a population of more than one million, six constituencies namely Kipkelion East, Kipkelion West, Bureti, Ainamoi, Belgut and Sigowet-Soin which are also referred to as sub-counties. Registered voters in the region are about 290,458 and the recently concluded JAP nomination attracted about 60,000 voters.

Jubilee is likely to face stiff competition from Kanu which recently launched their campaign led by Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, Kanu secretary general Nick Salat and even got the support of Knut secretary general Wilson Sossion. Kanu candidate Paul Sang who is former Bureti MP will face off with Aaron Cheruiyot who won the JAP ticket.

In the region, Kanu is popular and even sponsored Belgut MP. Therefore Jubilee should prepare to battle it out with Kanu.

The seat was declared vacant after former Senator Charles Keter was appointed Energy Cabinet Secretary.
