Islam is a peaceful religion. Kenyans should know that Al Shabaab terrorists only use Islam as a scapegoat to propagate their destructive activities.
The courageous and patriotic act by Muslim passengers who shielded Christians in the deadly Monday morning bus attack in Mandera is a clear indication that Islam doesn’t advocate terrorism.
The refusal by Muslims to be separated from the non-Muslims, to the point of daring the militants to kill them all, cannot go unacknowledged by any right-minded citizen.
The unity and love shown by the Muslims saved lives that could have been lost if they had allowed to be separated from their Christian counterparts. It should be remembered that such a separation claimed the lives of 28 Kenyans who were massacred by Al Shabaab last year in the same Mandera region.
The sense of patriotism and belonging to each other showed by the locals by insisting that Al Shabaab should kill them together or leave them alone is a sense that should be embraced by every Kenyan. This kind of spirit, if embraced, will breed to a healthy and beautiful nation, a nation free of terror.
