The scandal that has rocked the National Youth Service (NYS) may be bigger than we think. In fact, it might be bigger than Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, who finds herself in a tight spot over the alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the service.
If the recent revelations are anything to go by, impeaching Ms Waiguru may not be the solution to the issues raised. Perhaps it might even open a door for further leakage of funds.
The rot in the NYS management is so deeply entrenched that we should consider disbanding the entire team starting with Director General Nelson Githinji. This is because sacking Waiguru alone and leaving the rest, who are more directly linked to the misuse of funds, will not do any good unless the impeachment is a political witch hunt.
It seems work at the Devolution ministry is very overwhelming for the CS and we should consider transferring the service from that ministry.
How about transferring NYS to the Interior ministry? It will help reduce the wage bill as some duplicated roles will be eliminated.
