Kenya: Three MPs from Kakamega County have asked the government to probe and prosecute the assailants who killed Kabete MP George Muchai.

They also appealed to the government to increase their security officers as they are now living in fear for their lives.

Speaking on Sunday in Mumias, MPs led by Government's deputy chief whip in the National Assembly Benjamin Washiali, said the Government should use all means possible to apprehend the murderers.

"The death of Muchai has weakened the government side in the National Assembly, as members of the ruling side we will do our best to maintain his legacy. He was a vibrant and independent contributor on the floor of the House" said Washiali.

Washiali who is also Mumias East MP asked Kenyans to remain calm as the government and security agencies investigate and bring those responsible to justice.

"Muchai was independent in his thoughts; he did not just follow the waves in the House. Government should ensure his killers are arrested and brought to books of law" he said.

His words were echoed by Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe who said the death of Muchai has robbed Kenyans a leader who was selfless and was ready to serve all Kenyans regardless of their political and tribal affiliations.

"I send my condolence to the people of Kabete and all Kenyans, as a country we have lost a true son of this nation. He was my close friend inside and outside the National Assembly" said Wangwe.

He also appealed to police and other security agencies to use the CCTV footage and other evidence available to arrest the masterminds.

He lauded the late Muchai for his immense contribution on the floor especially when he made a firm contribution on the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Bill last year.

"He contributed on serious national matters on the floor of the House, he was vibrant and articulated issues without fear and favour. The nation has lost a true servant of the people" he said.

Lugari MP Ayub Savula said MPs and other leaders are living in fear of their lives and the government should increase their security officers.

He said insecurity has become a threat to everybody and the Government should step up its efforts to curb these incidents.

"The country has lost a true leader in the hands of thugs, police should do everything possible to arrest individuals who did this cowardly act and cut short the life of Muchai. The government should also boost security of all leaders. We are targeted by our 'enemies' and this is great threat to us" said Savula.
