Meru, Kenya: Residents of Meru town were treated to a rare bizarre act when a 20-year-old man was forcibly circumcised after his neighbours realised he had married yet he had never undergone the ritual, which is against the Meru culture.
Business in the busy town came to a temporal halt after a crowd of men frog-marched the victim around the town streets singing traditional circumcision songs.
The man was paraded naked in public.
“It is against our culture to marry when you are not circumcised,” said John Muriuki, an organiser of the ritual. Meru OCS Charles Kyoyo said security personnel would not intervene as long as the traditions were not a threat.
