Garissa, Kenya: Two powerful explosives rocked Dadaab airstrip in Garissa County on Thursday night.
Dadaab District commander in charge of operations Galicha Roba said the explosions, which happened in a span of 30 minutes caused extensive damage to the main gate. No one was injured
He suspects this was caused by hand grenades hurled from close range by sympathisers.
“We are lucky that the attacks occurred at night, when the airstrip is rarely used. We have cordoned off the area as we investigate what actually happened and whether there are devices that did not detonate around the airstrip” he said.

The police boss said they have invited bomb experts from Garissa and Nairobi.
The airstrip is usually busy with humanitarian and private aircraft using it and it could have been disastrous if the attack happened during the day, said a police source who cannot be named since he is not authorities to speak to the press.
