Lodwar, Kenya: Police in Lodwar town have intensified a manhunt for terror gang who broke into the houses of a principal magistrate and two other senior civil servants and stole properties of unknown value.

Police said the thugs carried out the thefts simultaneously on Tuesday when the owners of the houses were away.

Turkana Central OCPD Mwaura Njoroge confirmed the incident. Saying that he suspected the thugs broke into the officer’s residence in broad day light.

The OCPD added that they have launched a manhunt for the suspects. The thugs stole a digital camera, foodstuffs and cash of unknown value.

The principal magistrate who remains anonymous on request due to legal implications over the matter was said to be on leave when the thugs broke into his house.

The other officers who were affected included a district transport officer in the police department, Turkana Central senior district officer and his Kalokol Counterpart.

The OCPD said they have crucial information on the thugs, and were trailing some three suspects in connection to the crime.

The police have recovered a camera in a house suspected to belong to one of the thugs who escaped the police dragnet.

“We have intensified our search for the suspects, and are following up some crucial clues on their hideouts. We appeal to the members of the public to volunteer some crucial leads that will assist police to arrest the culprits”, Mwaura said.

Meanwhile security personnel in Turkana South district have launched an operation to apprehend an armed suspected who shot dead an administration police officer in Nakwamoru police posts in Turkana South Sub County.

 Turkana County Administration Police (AP) Commander John Kemboi confirmed that some suspected armed locals ambushed the officer and shot him dead at close range.
