Nyeri, Kenya: A Nyeri court was Tuesday told how police imposter Joshua Karianjahi Waiganjo used the name of retired President Mwai Kibaki to con people in Othaya.
The court heard that Waiganjo extorted money from the then Kibaki’s constituents by claiming he was in a position to assist their children join the police service through “a special recruitment exercise with the blessing of former President”.
A witness told Nyeri Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma how Waiganjo bandied names of big people to make a kill in his schemes.
Beatrice Wangui said Waiganjo claimed to be undertaking the said recruitment under the supervision of former Administration Police Commandant Kinuthia Mbugua, now Nakuru Governor.

She claimed to have been conned Sh130,000 by Waiganjo who posed as a senior officer with connections to big people in government.
Waiganjo, who is already serving a two-year sentence for being in illegal possession of police uniform, is facing five separate counts for allegedly defrauding three families of Sh280,000 by purporting to assist their children join the Police force.
The case continues on April 15.
