The Germany international made straight for the tunnel at the final whistle but was castigated by his countryman Per Mertesacker for not applauding the travelling support, as is customary by visiting teams.
And now Ozil, Arsenal’s marquee summer signing, has realised the error of his ways and issued an apology on his official website.
The 25-year-old said in a statement: ‘Sorry I didn’t thank the fans at the end of the game!
