Three people were allegedly killed yesterday during the eviction of hundreds of squatters at Vikwatani in the outskirts of Mombasa, which was ordered by a court.
Police denied any knowledge of the alleged deaths but residents insisted last evening that the three were killed in separate incidents.
They are said to have been torched by an angry mob after they were accused of being sympathisers of the owner of the 320-acre from which they were evicted. Police said they had not received any information on the deaths and that they were investigating the claims.
At least 169 families were evicted after the owner of the said parcel of land executed a court order issued on July 12 by Justice SN Mukunya.
