BUNGOMA, KENYA: New Ford Kenya Party leader Eugene Wamalwa has called for the transfer of all Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials in Bungoma County ahead of the senatorial by-election slated for December 19.
Speaking at a press briefing in Webuye yesterday, the former Justice Minister demanded that the IEBC officials be transferred because members of the public have lost confidence in the officers, some of whom were implicated by the elections court and found to have abetted electoral malpractices.
Wamalwa said that it was the serious electoral malpractices committed under the watch of the officers that resulted in the nullification of the win of Moses Wetang’ula as the area senator, after a successful petition by former Local Government Minister Musikari Kombo.
“The victory of Kombo was fraudulently snatched away, and it will be important that a level playing ground exists in the county at the coming senatorial polls,” said Wamalwa who was flanked by Bungoma County Women Representative Reginalda Wanyonyi and 31 Members of the County Assembly from Bungoma.
