City watchmen have accused Governor Evans Kidero of sidelining them on security matters.
They say the Governor has deliberately locked them out of all security meetings since being elected into office.
An official of the Kenya National Private Security Workers’ Union is wondering why Kidero has low opinion on city watchmen.
“We play an important role of securing this city, but we are never involved in deliberations whenever Kidero organises security meetings,” Joash Soita, the union treasurer, said.

The Governor has held several meetings aimed at finding solutions to reducing crime in the city. Soita asked Kidero to listen to their views when chairing such forums.
He spoke on August 21, a day after the union signed its first ever Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with KK Security company. In the CBA, guards attached to the American embassy will receive a pay increase of Sh25,000 each.
“It was a landmark CBA. It is not easy for many unions to achieve this feat. We are in an unregulated industry but managed to bargain for our members. Even the Kenya National Union of Teachers does not play in our league,” secretary general Isaac Andabwa said.
