Busia, Kenya: A hawker, 40, died at the weekend after he was hit by wheel that came off a speeding truck at Bugengi trading centre along the Busia-Mumias highway.
According to a witness, the hawker was hit and died on the spot.
The truck driver did not stop and only realised a wheel was missing when he was stopped at a weighbridge some two kilometres ahead.
Busia police boss Francis Nguli said the driver was detained and will be arraigned in court.

“The incident could have been avoided had the driver been more careful in ensuring that the wheels on his vehicle were properly fastened,” said Mr Nguli.
