Mob kills man over to attempt to rape mother in Maragua

A man was lynched in Ngaa-ini village in Maragua after he allegedly attempted to rape his mother, two weeks after he left prison.

Residents said Samuel Makumi 28, who has been in prison for more than three times had on Tuesday attempted to rape his mother aged 50 before the public came to her rescue.

The mother raised alarm that attracted the neighbours on Tuesday night, after his son grabbed her and tried to remove her clothes.

Patrick Mwangi, a resident in Maragua Ridge village said the deceased was a marked criminal.

Mwangi listed the criminal activities Mukami participated in the village and beyond.

“On Wednesday after he returned home his mother raised alarm and public descended on the suspect with crude weapons.  His body was set ablaze by the locals,” said Mwangi.

Last week, the deceased threatened to kill his brother after he demanded to establish reasons why he broke into the family store and stole three bags of maize.

Murang’a South Deputy Police Commander Ms Dorothy Gaitenga warned residents against taking law into their hands.

She appealed to community leaders to educate the young on the traditions, in efforts to reduce sexual assaults.

 The body was moved to Maragua district mortuary for preservation.
