The new guidelines issued by the Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) exempting white tourists from stringent security checks at the Likoni Channel is discriminatory.
The move has brought back to light a decade-old debate about
racial discrimination in the tourist sector along the Coast.
Why should white tourists be allowed to pass unchecked while black local tourists are subjected to security search? It is high time KFA stops this outright bias against local tourists.
Giving white tourists preferential treatment is a sign that local tourists are offered poor services in the hospitality industry.
Now that Kenya has been under terror threat, everyone boarding the ferry, whether foreign or local tourist, should be frisked by security personal.

It will be difficult for Kenya Ferry Services to determine whether one is a foreign or local tourist to qualify not to be searched.
If equal opportunities are given to tourists then the country is unlikely to face another attack.
I think KFS is forgetting that, only two months ago, a
police station along the Likoni Channel was attacked and the State is
struggling to put up a new one.
