Politician calls for action on joblessness

Kenya: The ongoing Standard newspaper’s investigative series on joblessness continues to touch hearts.

A cross-section of leaders urge county governments to help provide jobs for young graduates.

Monday, a Kisii politician James Atandi described the investigative series as shocking and accused the 47 governors of worsening the situation by sidelining the youth from their governments.

“It is sad that as we mourn joblessness in our country, the county governments are recycling retired politicians instead of employing fresh graduates. The governors must be held responsible for perpetuating unemployment in the country,” he said.

Mr Atandi, who unsuccessfully contested the Kitutu Chache North Parliamentary seat in the March 4 elections, said the investigative stories have exposed the country’s failure to develop youth-friendly employment policies.
