Oserian coach Sammy Omollo

After being relegated from the Kenyan Premier League (KPL), Oserian coach Sammy Omollo has confirmed he is leaving the club.

Though Omollo’s next destination is not yet known, sources say he could be headed to Ulinzi Stars.

The coach on Tuesday confirmed that his contract at Oserian is over and he has received an offer he is considering.

“The contract I had with Oserian was for two months and it was to help them survive relegation. Now that we have failed, it is time to move on. I have an offer under consideration at the moment and will move on,” he said.

Omollo admitted that it was a difficult task trying to maintain Oserian in the top league from where he found them.

“The situation was beyond salvage mostly because we did not have the players who could play at this level. This was a challenge for us because our league has become competitive in terms of the teams and the quality of players,” added Omollo.

He added: “When I joined Oserian, I realised that they had only two or three players required for this level. The rest of the players could not even get a starting place in a division one side and that is the reality.”

Omollo also pointed out that the quality of teams coming through to the KPL remains wanting because some of them do not deserve to be promoted.

“At the moment, teams that earn promotion are not ready for the rigorous of the top league sometimes due to favoritism accorded them in the division one. The KPL is a different ball game and they cannot cope once at the top,” he said.

Oserian is one of the two teams that were promoted to the top league last season. The other is Muhoroni Youth who survived relegation by a whisker.

He warned new comers Kakamega Homeboyz and Bandari not to imagine that they will finish in the top eight insisting that it is a pipe dream for them to think about such a possibility.

“In my experience, finishing in the top eight is not just for everyone. It requires teams that have been there for sometime and you cannot tell me that you come into the league and expect to be among the best. It is a pipe dream,” he said.

He also cautioned the two teams to strengthen their squads warning that they cannot make it with the same players at the top level.
