Nakuru club Space Next Door under fire after posting video of girls dancing in school uniform

Popular Nakuru nightclub Space Next Door has come under fire after posting a promotional video of its staff dancing in skimpy school uniforms.

The 35-second clip, shared on the club's Instagram and TikTok pages, featured young women dancing to Kum Baba, a hit song by boy band Wakadinali featuring Abbas Kubaf, Wakuu, Pepela, and Masterpiece King.

What was seemingly meant as a lighthearted promotion quickly backfired, drawing widespread backlash.

Many online users accused the club of "normalizing child indecency" and "sexualizing school-going children" by using uniforms as costumes.

Lorah Mugambi wrote: "Lakini pia sisi ladies, we're our own enemies. I'm seeing five sane ladies, dancing happily in uniform, yaani none of them thought 'this is wrong?'"

Eve Smiley added: "The fact that nobody saw anything wrong with this... Someone came up with the idea, someone approved, funds were allocated, uniforms tailored to be that short. Too long a process for just one person to say NO THIS AIN'T RIGHT."

Clemo questioned: "Does the owner of the club understand the power that the school uniform holds???"

Another user, Guten Vopo, suggested: "They should have told them quietly not to do it again. Teenagers absolutely want to do what they are NOT told, and they will love this video more because people are hating it."

Following the uproar, the club's management issued a statement denying any wrongdoing, insisting the costumes were part of a broader theme celebrating professions.

"We would like to clarify that at no point do we promote or endorse any of the claims being associated with this video. We recognize that the timing of its release was unfortunate given the current situation in the country," the statement read.

It continued: "We therefore wish to emphasize that Space Next Door does not, in any way, encourage or promote the negative interpretations being made. Our intention has always been to create fun, engaging, and respectful experiences while highlighting everyday roles in a positive and entertaining light."

The club has since pulled down the video from its social media pages.
