An X-ray patient on Friday survived after an ambulance he was riding in collided with an oncoming car on Kenol-Murang’a Road near Maragua River Bridge in Murang'a County.
A paramedic and the driver of the ambulance were also sustained injuries during the 6pm accident.
The patient was on his way from Thika hospital for an X-ray examination when the accident occurred.
Members of the public were forced to use axes, among other crude tools to remove the trio from the wreckage.

The patient was barely three kilometres from a private hospital in Murang’a town where he was receiving treatment.
The three were transferred into another vehicle and taken to hospital for treatment.
Witnesses said the ambulance collided head-on with the oncoming vehicle which was carrying a family.
Murang’a County police boss Josphat Kinyua said the matter is under investigations and the vehicles have been towed to Maragua Police Station.
“Motorists should be extra cautious. We have had very few accidents for the last three months. The drivers must be careful while on the highway to curb crashes,” said Kinyua.
