A Chinese has been fined Sh1 million for keeping child pornography pictures in his house.

In default, Mr Cao Jing, will serve six years in jail, the court ordered.

Mr Jing, a technician with a local mobile phone company, was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the offence of keeping the video in his apartment in Nairobi.

His plea of guilty saved the court what would have been a 15-minute session of viewing the most explicit video pictures of children engaging in sexual orgy.

Police investigators had assembled a laptop computer and projector ready to play the material in an open courtroom. Chief Prosecutor Onesmus Towett even asked the presiding magistrate Cecilia Githua to give directions as to whether he would have to play the entire 15-minute footage or just a portion.

Electronic evidence

But the magistrate adjourned the court for 10 minutes to have the prosecution and the defense lawyer consult the law on whether the electronic evidence could be admissible.

The material was contained in flash discs, cassettes and other electronic gadgets. Jing, 37, and a father of one, was arrested on January 28. He had been summoned to Lang’ata Police Station. Police confiscated electronic gadgets from his house.
