Kenya: Samsung has partnered with Alliance Media and the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) to stream Kenya at 50 events live.

The event that will start on Wednesday commemorates 50 Years of Independence, with LED advertising at the neck of KICC building.

“The screen, which will be launched at the Governors Ball, will be a prime opportunity for the country to showcase its digitisation campaign to foreign dignitaries and the rest of Kenya,” said John Muswa, Alliance Media’s business development manager.

The screen will become the focal point of all kenya@50 celebrations for the next 12 months.

According to Muswa, the screen shall not only be used for the anniversary celebrations, but as a backdrop to Uhuru Park — streaming live footage of events happening in Kenya.

Samsung’s support will include provision of strategic billboards across the country. It will also offer the panoramic digital advertising screen that is undergoing test runs at the KICC. This is aimed at promoting monumental building as the regional premier meeting centre.

Strategic move

The billboard at the top of Kenya’s iconic tower is part of a strategic initiative by KICC management to embark on projects geared at diversifying from its traditional income generation streams.

“There is going to be revenue through advertisement due to the visibility of the building from multiple locations in Nairobi,” he added.

“The LED billboard will be on energy saving mode during the day showing the Samsung branding and then at night will display a light emitting kenya@50 video. This is in line with the co-branding sponsorship agreement between the two organisations,” said Muswa.

Samsung Electronics East Africa Chief Operating Officer Robert Ngeru recently said the new age screens, which are a first in the region, are based on Samsung’s digital signage display technology.
