In a move to bring in a wider age group into the insurable bracket, UAP Insurance has dropped all age limits to enable everyone to qualify for medical cover.
UAP Insurance Head of Medical Isaac Nzyoka said in doing this, the company was filling a gap that has existed in Kenya since the advent of medical insurance.
It is also responding to rising demand from a section of the population that is keen to provide insurance for aging parents.
He said that UAP had also realised from research that aging parents were increasingly posing a burden for their working children and with the ability to comfortably take care of them waning with rising medical and living costs, the best option was insurance.

“Over the years we also received many enquiries and instead of resorting to traditional insurance guidelines, opted to get our underwriters to develop a solution that provides cover for aging parents, which either they or their children or guardians can fund,” he added.
all ages
This is what the firm’s new medical cover Afya Imara Senior will cater for, he said in Mombasa when the company opened a new regional office and customer experience centre.
Nzyoka explained that people living in the diaspora had also expressed a desire for a way to insure their parents back home.
“We have therefore dropped age limits and structured an insurance solution that provides for anyone to be insured for the rest of their life,” he disclosed.
He said traditionally the maximum insurable age has been 65, but the firm has decided to break that barrier and cover people of all ages as long as they are alive.
UAP Insurance, the third largest insurer with a gross written premium as at December 2012 of Sh6 billion, is fast extending its county reach to bring its geographical presence in line with the new governance structure.
To create further access to insurance services, the Mombasa office will be supplemented with new offices in Voi to the west, Malindi to the north and Diani to the south. In total UAP will have spent about Sh16 million to set up the regional offices.
Nzyoka announced that UAP had partnered with medical facilities at the county level to ensure that their clients received the best medical services available at the local level.
