Kenyan gunships have attacked Al Shabaab strongholds in a renewed attacks in Somalia as troops advanced towards Afmadhow.
Military spokesman Emmanuel Chirchir said Dalayat, a small town North East of Badhade that the troops captured last week, had about 200 militants at the time of the attack.
"Al Shabaab had concentrated on this town to conduct a counter attack on Badhade. Al Shabaab strength was estimated to be over 200," Maj Chirchir said in a Twitter post on Friday.
He said the militants had over 20 vehicles at this position with eight top commanders when the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) struck.

The troops are racing to capture more towns from the militants in their campaign in the wartorn country. The troops captured key towns in the battle on Al Shabaab militants in Somalia in a renewed air attack on the gangs on Tuesday.
The troops, together with those of Transitional Federal Government, took over Badhade and Hosingo south of Tabda as they headed for Afmadhow.
