Mr Okoth, 66, had an illustrious career spanning over a decade with the then East African Standard’s swahili publication - The Baraza newspaper until 1979.
He died of diabetes-related complications last Monday at the Kenyatta National Hospital. Okoth is remembered by his readers for the Hodi Hodi Mitaani column in the Baraza- Kenya’s first Swahili publication, before he moved to the Nation Media Group’s Taifa Leo.
The University of Nairobi-trained editor left practice in mainstream journalism in 1999 and started working as a media consultant for various media outlets and non-governmental organisations.
