The dismembered body of an unidentified individual has been found stashed in a pit latrine within the compound of Evojo Primary School in Sabatia, Vihiga County.
The body was discovered on Monday morning by two pupils who were cleaning the pit latrine.
The grade eight and six students raised the alarm, prompting the school administration and local authorities to begin the process of retrieving the body.
The school was cordoned off and marked as a crime scene.
However, the retrieval process stalled the entire day due to the unavailability of an excavator and but resumed on Tuesday.
Police officers and members of the county disaster management team are currently retrieving the body parts one after another from the pit latrine.
Sabatia Sub-County Police Commander Peter Mbua said the investigation began immediately after the body was discovered on Monday.
The school has since been closed indefinitely.
