Police in Homa Bay County are looking for a truck driver who allegedly knocked a boda boda rider, killing his pillion passenger.
The man identified as Moses Ojwang,' 41, died at Ariri village, South Kanyikela Location in Ndhiwa.
Ndhiwa sub-county police commander Paul Rioba said they are collaborating with the truck owner to locate the driver who went missing after the accident.
While cautioning drivers to be careful on the said road, Rioba said the ill-fated truck has been towed to Ndhiwa Police Station.
"Let people be careful when traveling on our roads. They should be more careful especially on junctions to avoid this kind of accident," said Rioba.
The deceased (Ojwang') a celebrated opinion leader had boarded the motorcycle from Nguku village to Riat trading center before they were hit by the truck which was transporting sugar cane to a local miller, Sukari Industry Ltd.
Eyewitnesses said the truck driver hit the motorcycle injuring Ojwang' who died shortly after arrival in a health facility at Riat trading centre on Thursday night.
The residents accused the company truck drivers of causing numerous accidents in the area.
They carried the body of Ojwang' to the factory main gate to express their disappointment.
"We are losing people because of accidents caused by truck drivers of this company. We want action taken on this matter, " said Milton Orwe.
Ojwang's body was moved to Manyatta Kobodo mortuary.
Ojwang' has been instrumental in shaping opinions of residents on development and leadership.
The bodaboda rider was treated and discharged.
