Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i will on Monday meet security chiefs to discuss the state of security in schools.

The CS was responding to a case in which suspected al Shabaab attackers shot dead two teachers at Arabia Boys Secondary, Lafey Sub County, Mandera.

Police said the militants struck at about 1am Wednesday and first hurled explosives before opening fire.

Matiang’i took to Twitter on Wednesday, saying the Government is committed to providing security for all its citizens.

“I assure all those who are preparing for KCPE and KCSE exams that their security will continue to be provided,” he said.

He praised efforts by security agencies for responding to the Mandera raid and “neutralizing the threat”.

Police reservists guarding the school engaged the attackers who fled as more reinforcements were mobilised.

All students were safe and no other part of the school destroyed, apart from the teachers’ house and the school staffroom.

There has been a lull in attacks from the militants in the area due to police operations in the past six months.
