Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia have expressed interest in signing their former player Kevin Omondi, popularly known as ‘Ade’ or ‘Daddy’.
Ade is also willing to rejoin the club he diligently featured for before moving to South Africa’s top-tier side Moroka Swallows.
Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr has exclusively confirmed to The Nairobian that the player is on the top of his transfer wish-list and that it is only a matter of time for a deal to be sealed.
“I’m interested in having Kevin as part of my squad because he is greatly talented. He trained with us for two weeks and I know he is a player who stands a good chance of being signed at Gor. He has a chance to prove how good he is,” Kerr said in an online interview.
It will definitely be an awesome feeling to return ‘home’ where his buddies still play. But the feeling may not be mutual for all his friends, especially the club’s captain Musa Mohammed.
During his absence, while in South Africa, Musa reportedly took advantage of the situation and snatched his wife with who they had one child.
This killed his friendship with Musa, a friendship that can be traced back to their childhood when they were still aspiring to be great footballers.
Musa reportedly abandoned his Rwandan wife Nshimirimana Sakina, with whom they had one kid with another one on the way.
It is interesting that he now gets back home after work and receives the warm welcome from a woman who was once a great wife to his former friend.
Ade, who is currently at National Super League side Administration Police, has however completely moved on and ready to showcase his full talent at Gor Mahia, a club he had won titles with.
He told The Nairobian that: “Yes, I have trained with Gor and the coach (Dylan Kerr) has shown interest in me.
For me, all I want is to play football and I’ll be very happy to re-join Gor if a good offer is tabled.”
He added that: “There is nothing wrong between me and Musa Mohamed. We are friends and I have no issue concerning anything. I also don’t think he has any issue with me because we have moved on.”
His manager Charles ‘Korea’ Omondi also confirmed the development, clarifying that Administration Police, a club which Ade joined from Nakumatt, will not be opposed to the move.
“Kevin Omondi is psyched up to re-join Gor anytime. He trained with them for two weeks and the coach is already impressed, so we’re simply waiting for talks with the club’s administration.”
The player, whose post-Gor life has been characterised by difficulties — both at home and in South Africa - has also featured for Sofapaka and Kariobangi Sharks.
If he re-signs with K’Ogalo, he will be forced to work under Musa, who is the current captain.
However, moving to Gor would definitely be a turning point in his career. His light could just start to shine brighter... again.
