You will not have to re-sit your final year of primary and secondary education if you missed Kenya certificate of primary education (KCPE) or secondary education (KCSE) examinations as is the norm.
This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta directed the Education ministry to set special supplementary examinations for students who had difficulties sitting the examinations during the normal calendar.
“These special examinations may be undertaken by students who may be ill, lose their parents, or give birth during the normal examinations calendar,” State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu said in a statement.
The directive was made when President Uhuru Kenyatta met Education Cabinet Secretary ahead of the release of KCPE results on Tuesday November 21.
In 2017 1,003,556 candidates registered for KCPE with only 993,718 eventually sitting the examinations.
Hitherto, the nature in which the examinations have been administered; students who fall in ill, fail to start or finish the examination over various reasons have had re-sit them a year later when they are offered.
“This is already the practice around the world. We have been lagging behind that and I think it is time to bridge the gap,” Esipisu added.
This is as the selection for secondary school for pupils who received their 2017 KCPE examination results will be done in two weeks.
“We will do Form One selection and we hope to conclude form one placement by December 4. The firm instruction we have from the president is that by Jamhuri Day (December 12), every child must have been placed in a school,” said Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi.
