Governor Peter Munya at the weekend launched his re-election bid with three rallies in the county's three regions.
Munya held rallies at his home market of Muthara in Tigania East, Nkubu in South Imenti, and Maili Tatu in Igembe. Mr Munya said he was confident of being re-elected by an overwhelming majority. Police cleared roads after they were blocked near Nkubu hours before his rally.
Munya and his key rival, Senator Kiraitu Murungi, differed on who had set up the roadblocks, with Murungi telling a meeting at Igoji that Munya had stage-managed it.
"How can I set up roadblocks to prevent myself from going for a meeting? I don't understand this type of logic," Munya said at Nkubu Stadium.
Elsewhere, Party of National Unity candidate Mugambi Imanyara and Jubilee Party's candidate Mithika Linturi continued to exchange barbs over the latter's academic papers.
Mr Imanyara claimed that Linturi's academic certificates were not genuine and that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission should disqualify him from running for the Senate.
