According to the Kenya Aids Response Progress Report 2016
released last week, youth aged between 15 and 24 from Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya,
Migori, Nairobi, Mombasa, Kiambu and Kisii counties contributed 66 per cent of
new infections.
Worse, Health Metrics and Evaluation study released early
this year revealed that HIV and Aids is the number one killer of young people
in Kenya.
The preceding two reports paint a gloomy picture for the
fight against HIV and Aids pandemic in this country. Although mother to child
transmission has been attributed to the current Aids prevalence, it is
important to note that youths aged between 13 and 24 are the most sexually
active hence the current sad state of affairs.
Also, equally important to note is that most youths no
longer adhere to ABC, that is abstinence, being faithful to one sexual partner
and use of condom during sex.
The erosion of family values and moral decadence in our
society has significantly contributed to premature deaths of our youths. Lewd
