Opposition leader Raila Odinga

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has promised the Jubilee administration that he will not relent in compelling them to tackle corruption and fully implement the new Constitution.

In his New Year message, the Coalition or Reforms and Democracy (CORD) co-principal told President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to brace for greater pressure from the Opposition.

He further warned that 2016 would be a defining year in exposing graft loopholes in Government.

"As Opposition, we commit to continue exposing corruption in Government. Eurobond money must be fully accounted for. We commit that by the end of 2016, we will have forced the Government to sack and prosecute the thieves and seal every loophole that makes corruption easy and profitable," said Raila in his message sent to newsrooms.

On the Constitution, he noted: "The question of how Kenya should be governed was settled in 2010 with the promulgation of a new Constitution. The presidency has attempted to rewrite laws and the National Assembly has attempted amendments through legislation. The attempts are stifling progress and frustrating change," he added.

The relationship between the Government and the Opposition in 2015 ended on a bruising note, with CORD accusing the current regime of failing to tackle pressing issues of corruption, insecurity and the economy. The fate of the Eurobond cash was divisive, with the Opposition insisting over Sh140 billion could not be accounted for.
