Isiolo, Kenya: Four people have been killed in a grisly road crash in Isiolo County.

Thirteen other people, mostly pedestrians, were also injured in the Tuesday accident. A truck driver ferrying goods to the border town of Moyale reportedly lost control at Subuiga Hill in Meru County, 39 km South of Isiolo town early Tuesday, before it descended downhill.

The truck hit three vehicles, a motorcycle and pedestrians near Isiolo County Market, who had jammed roadside stalls to buy goods mostly for Christmas.

A man, who gone to buy Christmas clothes for his children, is among those killed. John Mutembei, a stall operator near Total Petrol Station said the man was hit by the truck as he was paying money for the goods he had bought.

''He bought goods worth Sh 2,300 and was hit as he held the money. I survived by God's grace,'' said Mutembei.

Isiolo County Commissioner George Natembeya said two people died on the spot. Isiolo Level Five Hospital Superintendent Mohammed Guyo said one person succumbed to injuries.

Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner said the fourth person succumbed to her injuries at around 12.30 pm on Tuesday.
