Kajiado, Kenya: Chaos erupted at Maili Tisa town in Kajiado County Tuesday after a police officer allegedly shot dead a Form Three student during a school protest.

The protests affected transport along the Nairobi- Namanga highway for more than five hours after students and parents turned the road into a battle ground.

Three Administration Police Officers were injured and windscreens of two vehicles smashed during the melee.

Trouble started when more than 300 male students from Kiluani New life Secondary School barricaded the busy road.

They walked for two kilometers from their school to the Namanga road protesting lack of enough text books and  teachers in the institution.

The students also complained of a school bus they allegedly paid for in 2007 but has never been delivered by the dealer.

After the students barricaded the road for hours paralyzing transport, police officers arrived and a scuffle ensued.

It’s at this melee that a Form Three student was allegedly shot at the stomach by a police officer.

The student was rushed to Kajiado Level Five Hospital for first aid before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital where he  succumbed to the injuries.

According to one of the students Solomon Solonka, the students had earlier held a meeting with the school management over the same before moving  to the road.

It took the intervention of local leaders led by Kajiado County Deputy Governor Mr Paul Ntiati to calm the situation.
