NAIROBI, KENYA: The Council of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has summoned Attorney General (AG) Prof Githu Muigai over what it considers irregular handling of Anglo Leasing cases abroad.

Prof Githu Muigai is scheduled to appear before the full Council at the LSK Secretariat in Lavington tomorrow (Wednesday) at 12pm.

LSK Chief Executive Officer Apollo Mboya said that the professional body informed the AG of his appearance in writing on Monday (June 16, 2014).

“We delivered a letter to the AG requiring his physical presence to respond to questions over the Anglo Leasing court case in London that led to payment of Sh1.4 billion,” Mboya said.

The case was in the High Court of Justice Queen’s Bench Division Claim No. 2006 Folio 881 before The Honourable Justice Teare between Universal Satpace (North America) LLC vs. The Government of the Republic of Kenya.

The LSK had earlier wrote to the AG to show cause why it should not issue him with a Certificate of Dishonour over mishandling of the case in London.

The AG responded to a letter by the LSK Chairman Eric Mutua dated May 19 but the professional body says the Government legal advisor’s reply was inadequate.

“The AGs response in a letter dated May 23rd did not address issues the LSK Council required as itemized,” Mboya said.

The CEO said the purpose of the meeting is to give the AG an opportunity to address the issues and share relevant information and documents to enable the Council decide on the next course of action.

Mboya said that the Council of the LSK deliberated the AGs response in its meeting held on June 14th in Mombasa.

“The Council shall proceed to make a determination without further reference to the AG if he fails to appear before the Council tomorrow as scheduled,” Mboya said.
